I read about it in The Florentine (the English-language newspaper), but I didn’t really believe it would happen – at least not so soon. The city has made good on its promise to put up dozens of new bike racks around the center. There has been a terrible shortage of bike parking, and when you lock your bike to a random post, you risk a serious possibility of the vigili (police) cutting your lock and hauling your bike off to some sad lot in Scandicci, where you can buy it back for about 3/4 what you paid for it in the first place. These new bike racks are making me feel very positive about the city government. Now if they could just take better care of the parks … that’s another story.
