Fabulous outdoor party, or neighborhood blight? It all depends on your perspective (and your age, and where you live). Every year, this quiet piazza turns into one giant outdoor party, with a kiosk serving mostly beer, and tables and chairs set up around the fountain. Sometimes there is even live music. This year there has been some controversy in the neighborhood about whether the bar should be allowed to happen. I live right around the corner from the piazza and I have to say I’ve been dreading this moment. We already get a lot of noise at night from drunken people stumbling between Caffe Notte and the piazza. So far, I’m happy to report, the noise from the piazza has not been that terrible. And if you are out in Florence, it really is a fun treat to have a drink out on the piazza on a warm summer night. Just don’t throw your beer in my fountain!
