Emily Wise Miller is a writer and editor specializing in Italian food and wine. She is the author of The Food Lover’s Guide to Florence, which came out in its second edition in Spring, 2007. She has written articles on food, travel, and culture for the San Francisco Chronicle, Saveur magazine, Elle Decor, Salon.com, the London Times Travel Magazine, Surface, and others.

From 2006 to 2008, Emily created and led food tours in Florence, both on her own and through Context Travel. Her tours focus on the history and culture of Tuscan cooking, from the rustic bean soups of the cucina povera to prized delicacies such as truffles and lardo di Colonnata.

Before moving to Florence, Emily worked as a book editor for Fodor’s Travel Guides, Chronicle Books, and Weldon Owen, Inc., (working on cookbooks for Williams Sonoma), and was a restaurant reviewer and food columnist for Sidewalk.com in San Francisco.

When she first moved to Florence in 2001, Emily attended the Scuola di Arte Culinaria Cordon Bleu and also took sommelier classes with a focus on Italian wines through an organization called FISAR. Her background in publishing and travel guides and her passion for food–combined with an admiration for existing food guides such as Patricia Wells’ Food Lover’s Guide to Paris–culminated in publication of The Food Lover’s Guide to Florence. Emily is currently working on several writing projects, including some Tuscan-centric cookbooks.
